Where to Eat Near Piața Sfatului — Our Guests' Favourites
The restaurants, cafés and bakeries our guests return to again and again — all within a short walk of Strada Michael Weiss, tried and tested by people who actually stayed here.
One of the genuine advantages of staying in Brașov's old town is that the best places to eat are all within walking distance — no taxis, no planning, just stepping outside and choosing a direction. The recommendations in this guide come from a simple source: our guests, combined with our own experience living and hosting on Strada Michael Weiss. We give every guest a printed guidebook at check-in with our personal picks — what follows is the digital version, with full addresses and contact details for each place.
Coffee and Breakfast — Starting the Day Right
Book Coffee Shop on Strada Sfântul Ioan 24 is a cozy hideaway with consistently excellent coffee — from smooth espresso to creamy flat whites, served by an exceptionally friendly and welcoming team. It is one of the most characterful cafés in the old town and a genuine neighbourhood spot rather than a tourist-facing operation. Call +40 722 660 808 or visit menu.bookcoffee.ro.
La Birou Bistro, also on Strada Sfântul Ioan at number 28, is a breakfast-centric bistro born from a decade of travels. Expect fresh, globally inspired dishes made daily, plus a weekly off-menu special that keeps things interesting. Cozy, relaxed and perfect for breakfast at any time of day — this is the kind of place where you end up staying longer than planned. Call +40 724 260 953 or visit labiroubistro.ro.
Omelett on Strada Mureșenilor 16 serves fresh, seasonal, egg-based dishes from a carefully curated menu, plus house-made desserts and specialty coffee. There is always a vegan and kids option available, and picnic baskets can be ordered 3 hours in advance — a nice touch if you are heading to Tâmpa or the surrounding parks. Call +40 723 346 140 or visit omelett.ro.
La Birou Bistro and Omelett are both within a 5-minute walk of Strada Michael Weiss and consistently among the most recommended breakfast spots by our guests — arrive before 10am on weekends to avoid a wait.
Lunch and Dinner — Traditional Romanian and Beyond
Am Rosenanger on Piața George Enescu 13 is a delightful restaurant renowned for its menu of Germanic dishes inspired by the Habsburg heritage of Brașov. The chicken Wiener Schnitzel is outstanding — crispy, tender and a must-try. The setting on Piața George Enescu is one of the most pleasant in the old town. Call +40 268 417 416, or find them on Facebook at AmRosenanger.
Prato on Strada Michael Weiss 11 — practically on our doorstep — has been a Brașov landmark since 2008. The kitchen serves refined Mediterranean dishes with calm ambience and service that pays genuine attention to detail. Prato sources premium products from Italy and trusted local suppliers to keep flavour at the centre of every plate. Do not miss the Vacherin dessert — it is a must-order. Call +40 720 444 422 or visit prato.ro.
O Sole Mio at Strada Michael Weiss 33 is right on your doorstep — serving fresh, authentic Italian panini that make a perfect quick lunch. Pick your bread, choose from fresh ingredients and build your own sandwich with hundreds of combinations. Quick, tasty and reliably delicious. Call +40 746 760 309.
Prato and O Sole Mio are both on Strada Michael Weiss itself — you can be seated for a meal or holding a freshly made panini within 2 minutes of leaving your room.
For a Special Evening — Stana Sergiana
Stana Sergiana on Strada Păstorului 5 is a different kind of experience — perched above Brașov with wonderful views of Poiana Brașov, this rustic spot serves traditional Romanian dishes done to perfection. Cozy wooden interiors, hearty portions and warm service set the tone from the moment you arrive. The must-try is the Black Angus beef stew — rich, deeply flavourful and exactly what you want after a day of hiking or skiing. Call +40 726 366 147. This one requires a taxi or car — around 15 minutes from the old town — but it is worth the effort for a proper evening out.
Craft Beer — Mustata Brewery
Mustata Brewery on Strada Gheorghe Barițiu 1 is a local craft brewpub pouring its own beers on draught, right by the Black Church. Expect a relaxed vibe, live music, board games, match screenings and comfort food that fits the pint — burgers, ribs and cheese bites. There is a full bar and a small selection of local wines too. This is the best spot in the old town for an informal evening with a group. Call +40 728 838 254 or visit Mustatadebere.ro.
Wine — JUNO Wine Garden
JUNO Wine Garden on Strada După Ziduri is one of the most unique venues in Brașov — a beautiful open-air wine garden nestled between the old citadel walls, with seating in refitted wooden barrels. Sip from a curated list of over 200 bottles from 20+ wineries alongside Italian-inspired plates: focaccia, clam chowder and Chef Salvino's Bella Italia platters. If the weather is good, this is the most atmospheric place in the old town for an evening drink. Visit juno-wine-garden.ro for the current menu and opening hours.
JUNO Wine Garden inside the old citadel walls is one of the most atmospheric spots in Brașov — best visited on a warm evening when the outdoor seating in the wooden barrels comes into its own.
Practical Notes
Romanian restaurants in the old town generally serve lunch from noon to 3pm and dinner from 6pm onwards, with a quieter period in between. Most places accept both cash and card, but smaller cafés may be cash only — ATMs are available on Strada Republicii and near the Council House. Tipping at around 10% is customary and appreciated. For the more popular restaurants — Prato and Am Rosenanger in particular on weekend evenings — calling ahead to reserve is recommended, especially from May through September and during the Christmas market period.
All of the places in this guide are within a 10-minute walk of Strada Michael Weiss — Prato and O Sole Mio are on the same street. The one exception is Stana Sergiana, which is located in Poiana Brașov at Strada Păstorului 5 — around 20 minutes by car or taxi from the old town, and well worth the trip for a special evening with views over the mountain resort. We give every guest a printed copy of our full guidebook at check-in, which includes maps, opening hours and additional recommendations for activities, day trips and shops. If you have a particularly good meal somewhere we have not yet discovered, let us know — this list is updated based on what our guests report back.
